Zamboanga's Best

 In 2013, the city of Zamboanga went on a war between military troops and rebel fighters. Over a thousand locals were hurt and displaced. Homes were destroyed by fire. Schools and businesses were shut down. But despite the chaotic situation, the people of Zamboanga were able to stand up and bounce back. They were able to maintain the colorful land, culture, tradition, and food. One of the unique delicacies in Zamboanga is the knickerbocker. The knickerbocker is a localised version of the famous Filipino dessert – halo-halo. But the difference is, it is made of fresh fruits, and it is healthier. ] Mama El's [ Elevate your pastil experience!   Pastil, also known as pastel, is a Filipino packed rice dish made of steamed rice wrapped in banana leaves and topped with dry shredded beef, chicken, or fish. It comes from the Maguindanao people and is a popular, low-cost breakfast dish in Mindanao, particularly among Muslim Filipinos. Pastil stalls and eatery can be seen a lot in different parts of General Santos City. Even in schools, it is offered. It is impossible to know someone who hasn't tried pastil yet, as it is considered as a food that is easy to find and affordable with all the side dishes. You can't just get tired of eating it.  Even if the pastil food originally came from the Maguindanao people, there are also non-muslim who sells pastil.
